Most sacred community,

Michigan weather has been hot, but it has not slowed us down. We’ve filled our days with seeding, planting, mulching, hosting, building, teaching, shopping, celebrating, and so much more. We’re keeping ourselves and the plants hydrated while the heat tempts them to bloom early.

While nearly every plot of the farm has been planted, we are struck by the serene, centering sounds of our community as we watch birds sing around the farm, and voices rustle at the farmers markets. Through the Home Vegetable Garden Program, we are well on our way to establishing new home gardens for 20 residents!

I’m incredibly excited to have our inaugural CSA, Solidarity Share, underway. Each week, folks from more than two dozen households receive a box of produce from the farm. Our sliding scale allows folks to pay what they can.

Like everything we do at Growing Hope, we hope this program will sow nodes of self-determination within our community as we move ever closer toward a sovereign food system. As our food system moves towards self-determination, together, we’ll be empowered to respond to our own needs for healthy, culturally adapted foods, making and supporting one another’s decisions over the amount and quality of food we hunt, fish, gather, grow, and eat.

Thank you for building this empowered, equitable, and just food system with us, whether you’ve been around for a few days or a couple of decades. We celebrated 20 years at Growing Hope last month, and we were blown away by the nearly 500 folks within our community who joined us to celebrate. We are grateful to be a part of this community!

Together, towards justice. One day at a time.

Peace,

Julius
