What I loved was the hands-on learning and how the staff tied in social and food justice into the curriculum on  sustainable gardening.

Market Gardedening Intensive Volunteer 2017

We offer a variety of farm and garden internships for adults throughout the year. We can work with you to meet internship requirements for your school when relevant. We require, in general, a minimum 12-week commitment with a regular schedule working a minimum of 10 hours/week.  We currently have openings for:

Propagation Squad Volunteer Program

The farm provides seedlings and plants for Ypsiplanti and for Growing Hope’s various programs, including school gardens and the home vegetable program. The Farm is home to dozens of crops and flowers, most of which are propagated on site, which requires hundreds of trays to be seeded and maintained as the seedlings grow.  In addition, careful labeling of trays and record keeping are essential. As a volunteer you will be trained to seed trays efficiently and diversely based on crop type, and you will additionally learn proper watering, temperature, and plant care skills. The volunteer role will consist of being support to Growing Hope’s Farm Manager and support team in propagation, as well as possible training of other volunteers on propagation and seedling maintenance.

Market Garden Intensive Volunteer Program

A program designed for those who are looking to take their gardening skills to the next level. In this 10 week program you will work alongside our Farm Assistant to learn the technical side of market gardening. This program combines a set curriculum with seasonal based hands-on gardening.

Drop In Farm Volunteer Program

Volunteers are an integral part of Growing Hope and they support every angle of the organization’s work at all times of the year. Volunteers make the positive impact we have on communities a possibility.
