Building Blocks: Food Safety Regulations for Farmers

The Food Safety Modernization Act (or FSMA) is a federal regulation for on-farm food safety for fruit and vegetable growers that all farmers need to comply with. Marissa Schuh, Vegetable Educator with MSU-Extension, will cover the basics of what FSMA is, how to figure out if you can be exempt and the infrastructure and processes regulated. They will focus on Produce Safety Rule, the section that most specialty crop farms need to know about. Washtenaw County Local Food Coordinator Jae Gerhart will also touch on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification.

This is a mid level workshop, geared for people who are already farming, or are seriously planning on starting a farm.
