No-Till, Weed Free Gardening Class , Saturday April 7, 1pm-3pm

Class Fee $20.00

Imagine a garden where you hardly have to pull weeds! Deanna White will teach you everything you need to know about starting a no-till, virtually weed free, abundant garden. Come and learn with clear instructions, plus get free garden seeds, informative handouts, and a chance to win garden tools from YpsiPlanti!  Deanna is a Master Gardener and has been growing organic vegetables, fruits and flowers on her land in Ypsilanti Township for over 30 years.

Houseplants 101: Preparing for Summer Indoors and Out, Saturday April 21, 12:30 pm-2:00 pm

Class fee $12.50  

Have you ever bought a houseplant and not known how to take care of it? Take this class and never lose another houseplant again! Bring a few plants that need repotting or aren’t doing well and we’ll get them in better shape! Instructor MaryAnn Nielsen-Nisley, YpsiPlanti Manager and interior plant expert will show you the way.

MaryAnn has been a part of the plant and flower industry since she was a young girl working in her family’s flower shop and greenhouse business in Ann Arbor. She has been a member of the American Institute of Floral Design,  Michigan Certified Florist and attended Foliage Plant Short Courses at Du Page University in Illinois and at Michigan State University. She has been an interior plant enthusiast since the 1970’s and has years of experience helping people learn to successfully grow and care for interior foliage plants.

The class will cover:

  • Successful watering year round
  • Repotting a plant
  • Using the correct containers  
  • Moving plants outdoors successfully
  • Taking care of plants during the summer months  
  • Dealing with pests
  • Popular plants to grow outside (cacti, succulents, ferns, rex begonia, tillandsia and orchids)
  • A Pop-Up Potting Bench will be available!

Make-and-Take Patio Succulent Garden, Saturday May 12, 1:00pm-2:30pm  

Class Fee $12.50 (Soil and decorative rocks included in the class fee. Costs for plants and pots are between $5.00-$30.00 depending on your choices and pot sizes).

Impress your friends with your new patio succulent garden! We will discuss planting strategies and care so your succulent garden will thrive! Our resident plant expert, MaryAnn Nielsen Nisley will introduce you to the many succulent plants you will choose from to make your garden.  With the help from MaryAnn, you will create your own succulent planter. Bring your own container or purchase one from YpsiPlanti! If you bring your own container, a shallow clay pot 10” in diameter or bigger is suggested.

Class Fee $40.00

Make a lovely indoor or outdoor water fountain garden with MaryAnn Nielsen Nisley, our resident plant expert. Create a tropical island in your bowl for plants, fairies, or whatever you imagine. Enjoy the sound of gurgling water to soothe your soul and grow plants right in your fountain. Learn easy care and maintenance for long term enjoyment. Class size limited to 8. All materials covered in class fee, including Plants, stone, glass rock and your glass bowl.
