Plant A Row for the Hungry Campaign

PAR boys
Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR) is a national program that encourages local gardeners to fight hunger in their communities. Locally, the PAR campaign is co-sponsored by Growing Hope and Food Gatherers, and made possible by community volunteers. Gardeners pledge to grow and donate part of their harvest to Food Gatherers, which then distributes the food to community organizations serving people in need in Washtenaw County. In 2004, gardeners in Washtenaw County donated over 1600 lbs of fresh produce to food assistance efforts through the PAR program. In 2005, that total was over 3000 lbs!!

Already planning this spring's garden? Want to know what to plant for Plant A Row? Home gardeners, school gardeners, and commercial growers are being asked to plant vegetables and fruits that travel well, such as broccoli, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions, beets, potatoes, apples and pears.

Are you ready to get going? To get involved, join the PAR committee, or help spread the word, get in touch with us at plantarow@growinghope.net.
