Home-Grown Health Classes

HomeGrownHealthkids

Home-Grown Health is a free, family-focused cooking, nutrition, and gardening course. Families will come together at Brown Chapel AME Church on Monday Evenings to learn, cook, grow, eat and have fun. Health dinner is provided. Free cooking equipment & gardening supplies earned upon successful completion of the class--more details at the first session.

The course offered by Growing Hope in partnership with Michigan State University Extension's Family Nutrition Program, Washtenaw County Public Health, and work with Brown Chapel AME and partners through the Ypsilanti Health Coalition to promote the program. Partial support is provided by Pfizer.

In Summer 2004, we conducted our first series at Brown Chapel AME in Ypsilanti. In 2005, we partnered with the Ypsilanti Head Start site for a second series and had a great time learning, growing, cooking, and eating with little ones and their parents! In 2006, two of our Home Grown Health Participant took charge in the community and started to garden at the Perry Learning Garden. Now in its fourth year, Home Grown Health is accepting applications for the sessions to start in May 2007.
