The School Greenhouse Project is a collaborative effort that has been coordinated by Growing Hope in partnership with the University of Michigan engineering department, Washtenaw Community College Home Construction Program, and the school staff at local community members at each location. Four public schools in the Ypsilanti area with a low-income student-body have been designed by UM engineering students, and are scheduled to be built on school grounds. Three of four greenhouses have been structurally erected. Beginning in Spring 2006, the next phase of the project will begin as the interior of the erected structures are constructed to maximize space efficiency and meet consumers’ needs. Carpenter and greenhouse enthusiast volunteers needed! These are the beginning phases of a project that aims to provide hands-on educational resources for students through the incorporation of these greenhouses into school curricula. If you are interested (or know of anyone who might be) please let us know.
