Want to start your own seedlings indoors but don't know how?

There's still space in Seed Starting Squad! Seed Starting Squad is a great way to get more knowledge and experience starting seeds indoors, so you save money on plants, and get an early start on the growing season!

Here's how it works: as a Seed Starting Squad member, Growing Hope will sell or loan you a light stand for seed growing. The light stand will hold four flats for seedlings-- you will grow two flats for us (we provide the flats, soil, and seeds) and have room under the lightstand for two flats for yourself!

When you join Seed Starting Squad, you're joining other households and groups to help Growing Hope grow vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings for distribution this spring to community members, to use on our educational urban demonstration farm, and for sale to raise funds to support our work!

Sign up now and join us on Wednesday, March 11 at 5:30 to pick up your seed trays, light-stands and learn everything you need to know to start growing plants like a champ! For even more support and great stuff to have your first or BEST garden yet, become a Growing Gardens Member!

The 7th Annual Ford Lake Frozen Leap was a success and a day of freezing fun for all! Growing Hope would like to give our sincere gratitude to everyone who worked so hard to make that crazy, exciting event happen!

Thanks to the Pakmode team, Lake Shore Apartments, all the generous sponsors, and of course all the amazingly brave and cold-hardy jumpers, as well as everyone who donated!

Love Growing Hope? Take the plunge this Valentine's Day and participate in the frosty fun at the Ford Lake Frozen Leap! The Leap is an annual event at the Lake Shore Apartments in Ypsilanti  that raises money and awareness for local non-profits in an unforgettable way. Over the past 6 years it has raised over $50,000 for local charities! This year Growing Hope is delighted to be one of the recipients of this freezing fundraiser, along with Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars. It's not too late to join a team or start your own!

Even if jumping in a frozen lake isn't on your bucket list, you can still donate here and then join us on February 14 at 10am to cheer on the jumpers! There'll be music, costume contests, hot drinks and more; so come feel the love at FLFL7!

As we begin a new year, we find ourselves grateful for all of our supporters and everyone who has worked with us to better the health of our community!  We really would not have been able to do our work last year without the dedicated support of all of our donors and volunteers. You have helped us make a large and lasting impact on our community.  Here are just some examples of the positive work we have done together in 2014:

  • We continued our public workshops, treating the community to courses in cooking seasonally, traditional native foods, and healthy food.
  • We provided gardening support and resources to over 80 Growing Gardens members.
  • We hosted Garden Leadership training for over 30 people.  The training included a fifteen-hour course to prepare teams to begin or grow their garden project by focusing on project planning, community organizing, and site planning.
  • We gave out nearly 2,500 samples of delicious, healthy food at the Ypsilanti Farmers Markets. Participants learned how to use fresh fruits and vegetables in new ways and took home recipes to help.

In order for us to continue to have the same positive impact in 2015, we really need your support today! You can help us now by donating online, by mail, or in-person. Simply click on any of the 'Donate Now' links or place your check made out to 'Growing Hope' in the mail addressed to Growing Hope, PO Box 980129, Ypsilanti, MI 48198

Thank you again for all of your support and for considering a gift that could truly make a difference in the health of our community!  We at Growing Hope wish you a happy and HEALTHY New Year!

We're so proud of the amazing year that our Farmers Markets in Ypsilanti have had!

Did you know that the Markets had an economic impact of $2.4 million on the Ypsilanti area? Thriving Farmers Markets bring so many good things to our city, and mean so much more than just fresh, local food. However, the food is pretty great too!

For all the good that Farmers Markets do, they are not completely self-sustaining and require donations and community support to keep running. So please donate now if you believe in Healthy People, Places, & Economies! Also, be sure to stop by our last market of the year on Tuesday, December 23 from 3-7pm at ABC Microbrewery (Formerly known as Corner Brewery).  See you there!
